“Great Dolmen Of Ireland” is a 20×24 painting from my own photograph of the Poulnabrone Dolmen in the Burren, Ireland. I’ve been to this portal Tomb on each trip I’ve taken to Ireland, and each time is just as amazing as the last. The Tomb is a sight that the ancient Irish believed the soul would be transferred from the living to the spiritual world. During excavation of the site, bones of at least 33 different people were discovered from times long past. The Tomb consists of a large capstone laying across 4 standing stones, in what is possibly the most dynamic example of a passage Tomb in all of Ireland. The striking silhouette of the site makes for an incredible journey into Ireland’s mythical past and spurs the imagination forward.
